Cascadia Rising 2022

Exercise Title:

Cascadia Rising 2022  (CR22)

FEMA originally designated June 13-16 for conducting their annual National Level Exercise for 2022.  In coordination with FEMA Region 10, the Washington State Emergency Management Division (EMD) was initially planning a Functional Exercise for these dates.  However, in late September 2021 this was scaled back to two single-day Discussion-Based Workshops, one for Critical Transportation, and one for Mass Care Services.  State agencies and local jurisdictions still have the option of playing at either level depending on their specific needs.

Two entities, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) and the National Tribal Emergency Management Council (NTEMC) continue to plan Functional Exercises for CR22.  Clark County ARES/RACES is talking to both entities to develop a roll for this organization in the exercise.  For WSDOT, highway and bridge inspections (as we did during the Fall 2021 S.E.T.) are possible.  For the NTEMC, since we have tribal entities in our county, communications needs could entail relay of small airfield and airport fuel supply information, tracking of arrivals and departures of small aircraft delivering emergency supplies to the tribe, and testing of non-commercial backup communications between tribal locations.

Also, since the published CR22 revolves around a simulated Cascadia Subduction Zone rupture on June 9, 2022, exercise play could be scheduled for any day(s) between June 9 and June 19.  We hope that this will become a “field deployment” event for this organization.  Please monitor this calendar entry page for information updates as we receive them.
